Stop Hearing Loss Now

Hearing loss is a subject attracting more attention recently, because more and more people are experiencing heaing loss. It's getting more common for people to have trouble hearing what others are saying, espcially at social gatherings. Many people have noticed that they are turning up the volume of the TV or the radio recently, because they can't hear it as well any more. Research is now being prompted to find the causes of hearing loss and the ways to stop it.

There can be many causes of of hearing loss:

  • Aging
  • Sudden excessive loud noise
  • Loud noises over a period of time
  • Severe ear infections
  • Buildup of excessive earwax
  • Side effects of some medications
  • Bad nutrition

Hearing loss with age is experienced by many. Cochlear nerve cells can deteriorate with age, and there is no known medical treatment to restore the damaged cells to normal function. When there is no cure, a hearing aid can be useful. Different hearing aids are used for different conditions: some can be adjusted to enhance specific frequencies, when hearing loss is only for certain frequencies. An audiologist can help choose the best hearing aid for your needs.

To stop hearing loss, it's important to understand its causes. For example, when bacterial middle ear infections occur, antibiotics may stop them from damaging hearing, if started early enough.

Surgery is an options to stop some types of hearing loss, with a claimed success rate of 90%. Prosthesis replaces the damaged bone in the ear, so hearing can be restored. After surgery, the patient has to keep the ear dry for 2 weeks, before returning to normal life.

Besides the hearing aid, another tool to stop hearing loss is the cochlear implant or bionic ear, which has electrodes directly inserted into the ear in surgery. The sound, similar to buzzing, is directly transmitted by electrodes. Often used for deaf children, cochlear implants in very young children, before 2, with training to do lip reading, can help give them basic communication skills.

Some other treatments are sodium fluoride, anti-oxidants, acupuncture and craniosacral therapy are some of them. Raw food diets have sometimes been successful at reversing hearing loss - see Live Food Healing .com. Medical breakthroughs are making progress in stopping hearing loss.

Hearing loss, a disability currently untreated in about 85 percent of those affected, may be the nation's most damaging and costly sensory handicap. It is a hidden disability, often not obvious to others or even to those who have it. Its onset is usually insidious, gradually worsening over years and thus easily ignored.
