Stopping Hearing Loss in Children

Although aging is often a cause of hearing loss, cases of hearing loss in children have been reported. It is important to stop hearing loss in youngsters by proper instruction.

Loud noises are the most common causes of hearing loss in children. Loud noises are either controllable or non-controllable, and it is important to know the difference so the necessary steps can be taken. Both are equally capable of harming the hair cells in the cochlea of the ears.

Stay away from prolonged exposure to loud noises. The volume of the TV, radio, stereo, CD or MP3 player and other devices must be kept at a minimum.

Young children often enjoy computer games and rock music, which can cause hearing loss, so teahing them how to stop hearing loss is imperative. Proper education on the dangers of hearing loss should be given to children, to make them equally responsible for their own ears.

Loud music through headphones, even for as little as 10 minutes, can hurt the ears. Just turn the volume down. It often helps to set rules for safe listening, t save your childrens' ears.

Offer ear plugs and other kinds of ear protection to your children, for times they might be exposed to loud noises. Provide the protection, and make sure that they know how to use them.

If your child's speech patterns while young appear different from normal, check with your doctor. Hearing difficulties can lead to difficulty in talking. In school, children with hearing problems might not understand discussions, which can affect their self-esteem. If any signs of hearing loss appear, the child should have a doctor's checkup. Early detection of the signs of hearing loss is critical.

Going through life with hearing loss can be challenging, so it's important to detect hearing problems in children as soon as possible, to stop hearing loss in children as early as possible.
